Hi Nyima

Thanks for replying and sorry for non getting back sooner; I have been away.

Methods 1, 2 and 3 cannot be used because I never go into Windows (unless y'all mean press the Windows cardinal during boot upwardly, which I tried, but it did not work).

Method 4 is the chief method I was trying to use to make it work (i.e. the many methods I used inside the troubleshooting sections as described in step 3 and stride 10 of my original email).

Notwithstanding, I tried another complete reinstall of W10. I used the "Install Windows only avant-garde". As before information technology seemed to go a long fashion through the process, getting to screens similar "Taking intendance of a few things". I also heard a "doorbell" blazon audio, which I'd not heard before.

As before, all this concluded with the computer frozen on a black screen. Turning off and rebooting also leads to the blackness screen. At this point I again tried Method 4 and tried Startup repair. As before, this did non work, merely this time I went back and used the command prompt option and institute the error log: East:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

This log showed that Startup repair did not work because:

Root cause found: The operating organisation version is incompatible with Startup Repair.

This is conspicuously significant, just obviously, I don't understand why a fresh install of Windows is incompatible with itself!

Hopefully this clue may mean something to you.

Thanks for your help.

Update:

(tried to mail yesterday but the site was down)

I downloaded the ISO once again, and tried still another re-install. I fifty-fifty tried using the USB 2 port as I came across some info that suggested that USB 3 may take issues.

All to no avail of course.

But, I did finally manage to get it to boot in rubber manner (for me Windows 10 seems very reluctant to boot into safe way; pressing F8 during booting rarely works so the safe mode option is rarely bachelor). Too, much before in this massive waste of time exercise, I did get an opportunity to boot into safe mode only it froze in the same way as normal manner; then to finally get a safety style boot was some progress!

Doing nevertheless more research has at present convinced me that my Dell laptop is not compatible with Windows ten. The fact I've managed (merely) to get a safe fashion boot strongly suggests it is a driver consequence, probably(?) the screen. I now see that Dell hasn't tried my laptop on W10 and does not offer support, nor updated drivers.

The statements along the lines of "Computers running Windows 7 should work on Window x" etc. etc. should exist taken with a ton of salt. The fact that a reckoner runs W7 is, IMHO, admittedly no guarantee information technology will work on W10.

I volition try to find a W7 ISO image from somewhere and try to reinstall that using the Windows primal printed on the laptop (update: a Windows 7 ISO file is available from Microsoft if you take a production primal, but as even so another spanner in the works, my key is shown as a manufacturer's OEM key (of course it is, it'south a Dell laptop), the site won't let me download the ISO; really helpful... not!) . I'm really glad I tried this on my less than of import laptop which may finish upward under my sledge hammer (now very likely)! This would take been a disaster if it had happened to my principal computer…. which of course I won't even think about trying to update!

I had an e-mail from this site asking if my problem had been solved and to provide an update.

For anyone that comes across this posting I can say that the original trouble was not solved. Basically, my W7 laptop will not run W10 due, almost certainly, to Dell not providing suitable drivers. I have as well run into information (not verified past me) that W10 volition non piece of work on some Sony laptops. Thus, IMHO, unless you are 100% sure your computer tin exist provided with suitable drivers, don't even think nigh trying to move to W10 on an important figurer.

The Dell fill-in software failed completely; all my efforts, just after buying the computer, to make "fail rubber" W7 images on a USB stick as per Dell'due south instructions came to zilch.

After hours of work I did find and manage to install a completely make clean W7 installation and use my product key. Fifty-fifty this was difficult because many of the laptop'south functions did not work (e.g. Ethernet). Digging through Dell's site found a number of driver applications that, flake past bit, slowly bought my laptop back to life.

I have yet to reinstall all my programs.

Yet some other weird event was that several days later reinstalling W7 and information technology successfully registering, upon boot I got a message saying it was not a genuine copy of windows and I needed to go through a laborious process of entering dozens of numbers via a telephone key pad. Thankfully whatever this process was it concluded that information technology was 18-carat later on all and information technology re-registered.

What a mess!!

My PC simply went through the laborious procedure of upgrading to W10. I didn't want to do this but I must have accidentally pressed ok when one of those annoying items came up. It decided to load the upgrade when I was not at my desk-bound then I had no take chances to filibuster the switch or somehow veto the upgrade completely.

I am now stuck with a reckoner that will not fifty-fifty come up on. I push the on push and the calorie-free flashes for a 2d and and so goes off. I can hear the calculator running but absolutely nothing come up on my screen.

It went through the upgrade and then it went to reboot and said it couldn't be cause of a West -something validation fault and and so it had a reboot device error.

And it just kept cycling through these two screens. I turned it off and now Nil.

So I can't exercise anything and this is a 100% main computer in my function.

How can I fix this?

I want my windows 7 back but fifty-fifty more than that I want to see something on my screen.

My computer is only ii years erstwhile and it'south an HP Pavillion.
